There are two types of asbestos survey. You will need to carry out at least one.
Management Survey
A combination of visual inspection and sample analysis where the presence of asbestos is:
– Strongly presumed
or
If there is insufficient evidence to confirm that any materials present are asbestos free:
– By default
Refurbishment and Demolition Asbestos Survey
Undertaken before a property is due for major renovation or demolition.
This type of survey will be fully intrusive and, where necessary, involve extensive material removal to gain access to all areas.
Also applies to small refurbishments involving structural or layout changes such as, removal of partitions and walls.

Own or manage a building constructed before November 1999?
If you’re planning renovations you are legally required* to undertake a Type 2 Management Survey to identify the presence of asbestos.
